Carlsbad Marathon | Half Marathon Night at The Running CenterWhen: Wednesday, January 7 • 5 to 7 p.m.

Please plan to join us for a fun-filled evening with great prizes and great discounts at The Running Center. Get the inside scoop on the upcoming Carlsbad Marathon and Half Marathon and sample some of the products that will be served on race day. Ladies, get properly fitted for a sports bra and everyone find a stylish new outfit so you'll look really good in your race photo. Marathon staff will be on hand to answer your questions and leaders from The Running Center Pace Team will also be there to talk about how they can help you run your best full or half marathon. Carlsbad Half Marathon to be run in Al Asad, Iraq!
We're honored that a group of (85) active-duty service members will be running the Carlsbad Half Marathon in Al Asad, Iraq. We have a strong, personal connection to the military and were touched when we were contacted about helping to make this possible. We've expedited our race shirt and medal delivery in hopes that they'll arrive in time to ship to Iraq. We also printed custom race bib numbers just for their race (shown). Their race start time will be 8 a.m. on Sunday, January 25 - which will be 9 p.m. (P.S.T.) Saturday, January 24 - the night before our race. New Half Marathon Wave Start We will be implementing a wave start for this year's half marathon. Your bib number will have your wave number on it. All half marathon participants must be at the race start line when it starts at 7:30 a.m.
This year we're using the new ChronoTrack timing system. When you pick up your bib number, your timing device tag will be attached to your bib. The tag will easily detach from your bib number and you'll attach it to your shoe before your race. ChronoTrack's tags are disposable which means there is no chip to return and you'll avoid the hassle of removing your chip after the race at the finish line. A reminder that bib numbers will not be mailed out. They must be picked up in person at the Health & Fitness Expo.
Course Support
Along with water, we'll be serving Ultima, a natural sports drink with zero sugar along the race course. We will also be providing Chocolate Outrage and Vanilla Bean flavor GU Energy Gel during the later miles of the race. Read the final event instructions (available soon from this website) for more detailed information about these locations.

The ALS Association Greater San Diego Chapter will be participating again in the Carlsbad Marathon. This year, they are doing their On A Roll For A Cure in honor of Paul Applegate, their "iron horse marathoner." Paul completed the Carlsbad Marathon several times with the unwaivering support of his family and friends. Sadly, in August of this year Paul lost his battle with ALS. His memory lives on with the Carlsbad Marathon, his family and everyone who was lucky enough to know him. Run for a Reason
We all share some of the same reasons for walking or running – because it keeps us in shape, allows us to eat more, makes us feel good, provides us fun times while working out with friends, etc.Some people have another reason - a larger purpose. Alan (shown right) is running to buy cots for a homeless shelter in Oceanside, Caroline is running to help build a home for orphans in Africa, Misty is running to advance research on Huntington’s Disease (a horrible disease that claimed her mother) and Peter, an individual with insulin dependent diabetes is running to bring awareness of 
the rampant increase in diabetes among children. We encourage you to choose a reason for running your Carlsbad Marathon or Half Marathon. Congratulations to the 2008 Half Marathon Triple Crown Finishers! The 2009 Triple Crown series begins January 25 in Carlsbad - set a goal and register today for either the Carlsbad full or half marathon. Then, plan to enjoy 39.3 miles of running paradise with three of the country's best and most scenic half marathons. The Half Marathon Triple Crown series kick offs each year with the Carlsbad Marathon and Half Marathon. The series then continues with the La Jolla Half in April and the America's Finest City Half Marathon in August. All events sell out, so register early!!!Complete all three and in addition to a huge sense of accomplishment, you'll earn a gorgeous Triple Crown medal at the America's Finest City Half Marathon finish line. You don't need to do anything other than register and finish all three in the same calendar year and you're in the series -- it is that simple!
